The
Real
Reason You're
Not Making As
Much Money
as You Should Be
Why Education, Talent, and
Experience Just Isn't
Enough in Today's Competitive
World...
Dear Friend,
-
What if I told you that you could be on your way to
making more money - perhaps A LOT more money
- in a matter of days?
-
That you could have people scrambling to
follow your orders, vie for
your attention, or go out of their way to make
you happy?
- That you could outshine your competition
so completely,
that you become the only
logical choice for your clients?
That, by simply taking the time
to accurately match your business
clothes to your position, you
could instantly change the outcome of
every meeting you
attend, every order you give, or
every interaction you have with
other people?
Sound incredible?
It's not.
Because in this day and age of
casual dress and relaxed attitudes,
taking the time to dress
appropriately for your industry will put you so far
ahead of just about anyone
you work with that the avalanche of benefits
that you'll enjoy will come to
you as easily as taking candy from a baby.
Let me let you in
on a little secret...
Human Resources
professionals estimate
that 95% of people
dress inappropriately for their
jobs.
That's
right. Nine out of ten people head off to work every
day in clothing that undermines
their credibility, downplays their talents, and reduces their
paychecks significantly. Whether they're overdressed -- or is
more likely the case --
underdressed, they put comfort ahead of appropriateness
and their paychecks and
self esteem tell the tale.
Which is odd,
frankly, when you consider that...
-
They
spend tons of time and money training for
their careers...
-
They
go to the "right"
schools...
-
They
join all the "right"
organizations...
-
They
agonize over every word on their
resumes...
...and then they
jeopardize it all by showing up to work in clothes
that never warranted
a second thought.
They spend all
their time and energy perfecting their skills to set
themselves apart from the
competition... and then hide it all behind clothing
that's boring,
ineffective, or sloppy.
It's like
cutting a perfect diamond, putting it in an elaborate
setting, polishing it to a high
sheen... and then wrapping it in a brown paper bag
and wondering why no
one gives it a second look.
Are you one
of them?
-
Do your
work clothes accurately and
immediately identify
your position,
income, and level of success?
-
Do they
instantly grant you access to the people and places
that will help
you advance your career?
-
Do they
engender trust, establish credibility, and garner
respect?
If not, there
are two things I know for sure:
1. You're
working A WHOLE LOT harder than you need
to
2. You're not
making as much money as you could be
Because even if
you're the brightest, smartest, wittiest, and
most deserving woman
in your office, if you don't dress appropriately
for your position,
you're not going to advance as quickly as you
should.
Or, as Mark
Twain once said,
"Clothes make the man. Naked people have
little
or no influence on
society."
So how
did we get so off track in our business clothing choices that
95% of people now dress
inappropriately for work?
Blame the "Dot Com"
era of the mid 1990's. "Casual Friday" started as
way for business people
to usher in the weekend by "dressing down" one
day a week. In no time
flat, it became a daily uniform for many offices
that soon spiraled so
completely out of control that women who once went
to work in suits and
heels started reporting to work in shorts and
flip-flops.
Thirty years after
forcing our way into boardrooms around the world via the
woman's movement, we put our cause back at least sixty years in
favor of casual clothing.
Divested of the most powerful components of
the business uniform --
clothing elements that have garnered respect and
built fortunes for more
than five hundred years -- women are now working
harder to earn less and
stressing more than ever before.
And it's so very,
very unnecessary.
Yet even people who
should know better make
big, huge mistakes
with their work clothes.
Like:
-
The
young Stanford and UCLA Medical School-trained
surgeon who showed
up for her first day at work at a prominent east
coast hospital dressed in shorts and a Hawaiian
shirt. She was delayed for
nearly an hour
by security as they attempted to verify her
credentials.
-
Or the
Colorado lawyer who went to argue a court case
wearing a t-shirt, jeans, and hiking boots before she
headed out for a
hiking trip.
The judge was so annoyed by her lack of respect
that he instigated a state-wide dress code for all
attorneys.
-
And who
can forget the Duchess who came to Texas to
dedicate a building in the dead of winter but dressed like
it was the middle of
summer? She was crucified in the press, especially
since she was staying
with a famous socialite who happened to be a member
of the
international best-dressed hall of
fame.
Yes, poor business
wear choices can happen to anyone, regardless of her
background or education. Fortunately for all the women in these
stories, they had their
mistakes pointed out to them. Probably not in the
format they would have
preferred, granted, but at least they were told their
business attire wasn't "up
to snuff."
Most women aren't
so lucky.
Many go their
entire careers missing out on promotions and
opportunities because no one
bothered to tell them they needed to upgrade their business
attire. No one sat them
down and showed them what clothes they needed
to wear to garner
respect, instill credibility, or stop nay-sayers in their
tracks. Nope. No one took
the time to explain the "unspoken" rules of business
attire.
Or if someone did,
they may have not believed her. They may have
assumed that because THEY
don't care about clothes and fashion, that NO ONE
does. Or, because they're
extremely smart at something (math, science, music,
etc.) that "regular"
rules just don't apply to them. That being gifted in one
area somehow exempts
them from the rules of conduct in everything
else.
So what's the end
result?
These women end up
spending years - even decades - earning less than
they could, putting up with more than they should, and
struggling constantly just to hang onto
whatever income or status happens to come their
way.
What a
waste!
What if I told you
that there was a much, much easier way to go about
it?
-
That
instead of waiting for someone
important in your
organization, field,
or industry to notice all your hard work and reward
you appropriately, that you could "take the bull by
the horns" to ensure
your own success?
-
That
instead of hoping for choice
opportunities to find you, that
you could
attract them like flies to honey to become a magnet
for prosperity?
-
That
instead of settling for the staff,
territories, or workloads
that others
assign to you, that you could dictate what you want
and have others
clamoring to get on your team?
Sound
impossible?
Not when you
know what you're doing. And the first step in achieving
your goals is to
build a "take-no-prisoners" work wardrobe that will take
you anywhere you want to go.

"...professionalism is still
important in the workplace"
"As an older woman it is difficult for me to
be able to adequately communicate to the
younger employees, without skepticism and
difficulty, that professionalism is still
important in the workplace and distinct choices
between what you wear to the office and what
you wear to the clubs are different. Your
information ... helps to guide people between
making a personal statement with your
professional presence and feeling good about
yourself while not going across the line to
un-professionalism.

me as a leader and I look forward to more

compensation.
"Your practical advice helped me organize
and create a list of needed items that was
much less expensive than just guessing or
buying just any designer item that was on

"My gosh, even now that I can budget for
higher end pieces, the most amazing suit I
currently have I bought at a consignment
shop!

"I feel much better about my
look"
"I have been doing just like what you
described, [wearing] special suits and
looking good for certain occasions and
ragged for all others.
"I went from banking to fashion, and
immediately noticed how far behind I am
from everyone else. I thought that by my
professionalism and work results, I can win
people over, but I was wrong. I didn't look
the part.
"Now [that I run my own business] I have
more free time than while I was working to
make my boss rich full time, I am able to
give more thoughts to my image
consistently.
"I do notice that my confidence is
increasing; I am starting to teach other
women what looks best on them. I feel much
better about my look and thus self, and I
am not as self-conscience as before.
"Thank you for what you are writing. It's
right on target."

"DressingFor Success"
is nothing new. Savvy business people have
studied and used
these principles successfully for hundreds of years,
because they work.
But after the
casual trend of the "dot bomb" era, so many people
and businesses
discovered that they enjoyed reporting to work in
relaxed apparel so
much that they never went back to their old
business clothes. Even
when they lost business, suffered turnover, and
noticed a marked decrease in
respect and effectiveness.
Business Wear
Magic shows you how to use that
relaxed attitude to your advantage to take control of
your destiny and move so far so fast, your
competition will never know what hit them. By adding
just a few key pieces,
you can "shake things up" to your advantage, to put
those around you on
alert and create a ripple effect that may
have:
Your upper
management re-evaluating your
promotability
-
Your
boss wondering if you're interviewing
elsewhere
-
An
incompetent supervisor quivering in his
boots, afraid
that you're after his job
-
Your
peers speculating why you're doing so much
better than they are
Your subordinates
wondering if you're suddenly going to
start expecting more from
them
Yes, dressing
appropriately can have THAT big of an impact. If you're
ready to "shake things
up" in your office, make more money, and get
everything you deserve,
you'll be able to make your game plan after
reading Business Wear
Magic.

So how is
Business Wear
Magic different from all the other "dress
for success" books
out there?
Let me put it
this way:
Times Have
Changed
So Has Appropriate Business
Attire
When most people think "dress for success," they
immediately think "business
suit." Which is fine for those traditional businesses
where a suit and
heels are required.
But what
about all those other industries that don't
necessarily call for a suit, like
architecture or fashion or teaching or food service?
What should
they wear to "dress for
success?"
Most business attire books don't address that,
but Business Wear Magic does. Based on a 4-point scale
developed by one of the States' leading image consultants,
Business Wear Magic shows you exactly what you should be
wearing to work whether you're a doctor, lawyer, horse
trainer or candlestick maker. You'll also find the business
casual
look for each of
the four levels.
|
"I think you provided those of
us who do not have to dress for business
meetings and who work in messy work
conditions with some very valuable
information."
"I really enjoyed this
article because I can
relate to the Science Professor. I have
worked in the scientific field for 24
years now, both in the laboratory
running experiments with all kinds of
chemicals and sample matrices, and now
in a more office-type job, overseeing
our Quality System. I agree it really is
a tough place for women to know how to
dress when you do not have to meet
clients, and what you spill on you may
eat your clothes or do bodily harm. I
see my friends in banking & business
going to work in high-dollar, stylish
suits, and think how stupid I would look
going into the lab (or into my office
now) in one of those. I also don't want
to look like the stay-at-home moms in my
neighborhood who live in capris or
windsuits. So what is the lady scientist
to do? I think you provided those of us
who do not have to dress for business
meetings and who work in messy work
conditions with some very valuable
information. It was also comforting to
know that what I have been wearing is
not so off the mark either. Thanks for
your great advice!"

"You've more than earned your
book fees"
"You've more than earned your book fees
-- I'm the systems engineer 'sister' of
that science prof. I started a new job last
year with way too much makeup, fussy
clothes... and it landed me vitually in the
typing pool. My hard work just got me a
bonus, and I do believe my switch to casual
tailored that is just a notch above what
the management guys wear is exactly the
right thing, because at lunch the managers
are now joining me. I am low makeup (but
not no makeup), have a short, tidy but
rather expensive haircut that lends itself
to a trendy weekend look, and I wear a
jacket pretty much daily, except for the
days I have to deal with machinery. Then it
is tailored polyester 3/4 sleeve blouses.
Simple, sleek leather low-heel oxfords. I'm
awfully grateful."

Plus, you'll also learn what to wear at each
stage of your career, with appropriate budgets for each
income level. That comes courtesy of my first career as an
accountant, and you won't find that in
any other book.
So Who is this Ebook For,
Exactly?
Anyone who:
-
Is ready to
move up to the next rung on the success ladder
and looking for
a sure way to do it
-
Has been
told by a boss, mentor, or friend that they
should consider
upgrading their business wardrobe
-
Is starting
to work or returning to work after a long
absence
-
Has been
recently promoted and is wondering what's
appropriateto wear at
their new level
-
Is in
charge of creating or has influence over the company
dress code
policy.
In short, anyone who is looking for a simple,
surefire way to increase their
bottom line.
